Marian Antiphonies

Within the Roman Catholic liturgy a Marian antiphony is a song dedicated to Mary, mother of God. In the daily breviary the Marian antiphony will be sung after the last commonly celebrated part of the service of the hours, i. e. after the vespers or the compline. The most common Marian antiphonies are: Alma Redemptoris Mater (from advent till the end of Christmas time), Ave Regina Coelorum (after Christmas time till Lent), Regina Coeli (Easter time) und Salve Regina (after Easter time till Advent). Besides the Sub tuum praesidium is also a popular Marian antiphony.
