The vespers is the evening song of the Roman Catholic Church. It is part of the breviary. The vespers contains introduction, hymn, psalms, readings, responsorial, Magnificat, intercessions, Our Father, prayer and blessing. In case the vespers is the last part of the breviary sung in the community, a Marian Antiphony is often added. At the time of Rathgeber the vespers was not only prayed and sung by the monks, but also performed with choir and small orchestra. Thus, Rathgeber published some vespers compositions.
